A black Cadillac Escalade – Ontario plate CTTJ 025 – is parked nose-in inside a marked bicycle lane, its front bumper resting directly over the painted bicycle symbol. The full-size luxury SUV, with its signature vertical LED daytime running lights, fills the entire lane on a busy Downtown Toronto shopping street.
Because the Escalade blocks the lane completely, a cyclist has to swerve out into live traffic to get past – the exact hazard that gets riders doored or cut off. Stopping or parking in a marked bicycle lane is prohibited in Ontario and forces people on bikes into the path of moving cars.
